This will be a great NFC South battle as the New Orleans Saints
march into Tampa to take on the Buccaneers. The Saints are already coming
off an NFC South win over the Atlanta Falcons and the Bucs are sitting at
0-1 with a loss to the lowly New York Jets. A win in this game by the Saints,
and they are sitting pretty atop the division. Tampa needs to get a win
to get themselves back in the mix. An 0-2 start in this division does not
bode well. Tampa has a newly rejuvenated defense, but will they be able
to slow down Drew Brees and the Saints?
The Saints have their coach back. They didn’t put up those Madden like numbers last week against the Falcons, but they won the game and it was evident they have regained their confidence and swagger having Sean Payton back leading the way. The Saints are many people’s favorite to win this division over the Falcons, Panthers, and Bucs, but all three other teams feel they have a shot. There isn’t one bad team in the South but on paper, it appears the Saints are the favorite at this time. I am an admitted Atlanta Falcons fan, so I watched every play of the Saints game last week and what shocked me most was the defense. I didn’t think the Saints defense would click so quick and yet they held the high powered Atlanta offense to just 20 points and had a late goal line stand to secure victory 26-20. These Saints are for real. Watch out NFL.
Tampa Bay wants so bad to be considered a contender. Just a couple of years ago their then head coach Rahim Morris claimed to have the best team in all of the NFC, only to watch them crash and burn and eventually lead to losing his job. I was pretty high on Tampa this preseason myself. I didn’t think they had a shot to win the division or anything but I saw a solid 7 or 8 wins with this team…then they lose to the Jets. That game still puzzles me. Are the Jets actually decent or did I give Tampa far too much credit? Well we will find out the answer to that question this weekend. If Tampa doesn’t do better offensively, this game could get out of hand very quickly. The Saints are going to score, its just what hey do. Tampa’s new defense will need to slow them down at least a little, and the offense needs points…lots of points. In 4-5 weeks, I think Tampa would have the ability to make this a game, especially at home, but being week 2, I sense they are in big trouble.
This game opens as a 4 point spread with the Saints as the road favorite. I am not one for road favorites in the NFL, but this game has trap written all over it for the bettors. The books want people to jump on the Bucs and the 4 points due to this being an in-division game. I have zero faith in Tampa right now to cover anything. Again, maybe I am being too hard on them for a loss to the Jets, but hey, it happened and it was ugly. I think the Saints roll in with tons of momentum and blow this game away by the end of the 3rd quarter. If Drew Brees is your fantasy QB, enjoy this weeks win. Saints by 16. 30-14
