In our estimation, betting on baseball totals is one of the most underrated wagers in all of gambling. If you think about it, there is a reason why most sportsbooks limit these wagers to $500 or $1000 while letting you bet virtually whatever you want on sides (moneyline bets.) We’ll get into the reasons a bit later in this article. First let’s further explain what totals are so you have a good understanding of the topic.
Totals give you the opportunity to bet whether you think both teams combined scores (runs) will go over or under the posted total established by the oddsmakers. These bets are easier than picking sides and much more enjoyable as well as your not rooting for one team or another, your rooting for both!
The first thing you should look at is the starting pitchers. (We go more in depth in our Baseball Handicapping Section)
Then examine the weather.
Check out how hot or cold the hitters are over the past few games for each team and determine which way all the information points then determine if the posted total looks like it’s worth a play.
It’s not brain science and it’s one of the few forms of sports handicapping where the stats hold some good weight. That’s one of a few reasons the books limit the amount you can wager on this type of bet. Their simply not that hard to beat.
