WNBA Prediction Seattle at Dallas
Lines: Sea -3′, 167
I caught a couple minutes of Sunday afternoon’s Minnesota Lynx at Los Angeles Sparks game.
They came back from commercial and it looked like they were going to do one of those “Check out all the celebrities at the game” segments.
They showed Leslie Jones, then . . . they returned to the players on the court.
One D-lister who most people don’t know, and then not one other person.Sad.
But I digress.
Back to ‘capping.
It’s an Over kind of world lately, across all sports.
Take a look at this:
UFL
All four UFL games went Over the total this past week. In fact, THREE of the last FIVE weeks saw ALL four games Over.
The Over is 19-3 in the last 21 games – that’s 86%!NBA
This past week, the NBA saw the Over come in at 8-4, 67%.
WNBA
The 2025 season started on Friday night.
By the time the last game ended Sunday night, the Over was 5-3.
MLB
Yeah, like I care.
The UFL/NBA/WNBA record on totals combined for 17-7 to the Over last week, 70%!
It’s a new week, new games, new matchups, so the above-noted edge to the Over may not have a lot of meaning. But I’d rather know about it than not know about it as I prepare to do Battle with the Books this week.
Despite all that money going to the Over, I’m starting my week with an Under. And a Dog.
Both Seattle and Dallas started the season 0-1.
The Wings lost by 14 to Minnesota; the Storm lost by 22 to Phoenix.
The Dallas game went Over by 19; the Seattle game stayed Under by 18.
Of the two losses, Seattle’s was far worse.
The Storm hit just 33% overall, and 3-17 from three-point range. And now they’re Favorites on the Road??!!
Dallas lost to the Lynx, but after watching Minnesota beat up on LA last night, they look to be a quality team again this season, picking right up from last year when they had the second-best record in the league.
It’s not a lot to go on with only one game played by each team, but based on what I saw in the two team’s losses, and taking measure of the opponents they faced, I’ll take the home team plus the points tonight.
As for my pick on the total, the Storm tend to play at a slow pace, and that, combined with their poor shooting to start the season, has me also taking the Under tonight. The total on this game is 167 and my numbers have it coming in in the 150’s.
Last year, Seattle’s totals show a record of 16-23-1, a 59% edge to Unders.
Dallas had a strong edge for the Over, but that was playing for head coach Latricia Trammell, who guided them to a 9-31 season.
New head coach Chris Koclanes was the former defensive coordinator for the LA Sparks and Connecticut Sun and is known for his defensive prowess. This wasn’t apparent in their first game when the Dream gave up 99 points to Minnesota but there will be an improvement on that tonight (has Lennon said to McCartney, “It can’t get no worse.”
And this game is being played on a Monday.
For my feelings (and some stats) on “Monday Moods” and how it affects totals see my article dated April 21.
The WNBA doesn’t play a lot of Monday games.
In fact, last season they only played seven; three Overs, four Unders. Another slight edge for Unders.
For my final reason and decision to pull the trigger and back the Under on this one, the game also qualifies for one of my personal handicapping models for totals in the WNBA (T1.) It has a record of 1-1 on Unders this season but finished last year at 16-10, 61%.
When to Buy recommendations:
Seattle opened at -3 with extra juice, and I see -3′ now showing at a few books. I bought it at our sponsor Betonline at +3′.
The total opened at 165 and is up to 166’/167.
I’ll wait a little bit on this one to see if it keeps going up. As always, I’ll try to post the number I get in the PredictEm forum before tip-off.
WNBA recap: 0-1
Record: 0-1
Review: Lost with Atlanta.
